Green Light GO

Diverse by Nature, Inclusive by Choice

Our Mission

Green Light Get Outside (Green Light GO) supports the cultivation of healthy relationships with self, others, and nature, with a focus on serving diverse schools and youth from socioeconomically challenged communities that have historically been underserved.

We achieve our Mission by partnering with school communities with diverse student populations and high percentages of socioeconomically disadvantaged families to deliver social emotional learning that cultivates healthy communication, self-confidence, self-regulation, social-emotional skill building, and healing experiences in nature.

About Us

For more than 30 years as a middle school teacher in Yolo County, California, Mr. Ted Wimberg curated and cultivated a social emotional learning curriculum and facilitated experiential wilderness workshops that transformed the lives of thousands of underserved youth. Upon his retirement from teaching in 2018, Green Light GO was formed to ensure that the success and impact he had on students of significant need, would not cease upon his retirement.

We are committed to sharing this unique curriculum more broadly and supporting teachers in delivering it in underserved communities throughout Yolo and Sacramento Counties. We are also committed to building and supporting the infrastructure necessary to provide wilderness experiences and access to the healing power of nature for students who would otherwise not likely have the opportunity. We create outdoor learning labs and use nature as an extension of the classroom.  Our passionate staff and supporters help to curate and cultivate an outdoor gear library, and build mentor and volunteer support systems that allow highly diverse groups of students to experience their authentic selves in the classroom and in the wilderness.

Green Light GO partners closely with schools and educators in disadvantaged communities to allow them to offer this innovative curriculum and one-of-a-kind wilderness experiences to the students they serve, without overtaxing their limited human and financial resources.

This is the kind of partnership and collaboration that can and does change lives for the better!

Diverse By Nature and Inclusive By Choice

Our approach to diversity is simple—it’s about embracing everyone. We take the broadest possible view of diversity and value the visible and invisible qualities that make each person who they are.

We believe that when people feel respected and included they can be more creative, innovative, and successful. From building a culture where all employees can bring their authentic and best selves to work, to creating a world where students from all backgrounds have the opportunity to experience the healing power of nature; we’re doing what it takes to build an inclusive world for all.

We are committed to cultivating an inclusive workforce and collaborating with traditionally underserved communities that represent different cultures, backgrounds and viewpoints.

We believe the unique perspective and experiences that each person carries can help advance our mission and progress towards bringing all students closer to nature and their authentic selves.
