About Us
Green Light Get Outside (Green Light GO) supports the cultivation of healthy relationships with self, others, and nature, with a focus on serving diverse schools and youth from socioeconomically challenged communities that have historically been underserved.
We achieve our Mission by partnering with school communities with diverse student populations and high percentages of socioeconomically disadvantaged families to deliver social emotional learning that cultivates healthy communication, self-confidence, self-regulation, social-emotional skill building, and healing experiences in nature.
Our Team
A History of Success
For over 30 years, Mr. Ted Wimberg dedicated his life as a middle school teacher in Yolo County, California, curating a social-emotional learning curriculum and leading wilderness workshops that transformed thousands of underserved youth. After his retirement in 2018, Green Light GO was established to ensure his impact would continue.
We are committed to sharing this unique curriculum and empowering teachers in underserved communities across Yolo and Sacramento Counties. Our programs challenge young people to push their limits in nature, providing access to its healing power through outdoor learning labs as extensions of the classroom.
Our passionate staff and diverse mentors reflect the students we serve, offering guidance that resonates deeply with them. We curate an outdoor gear library and cultivate supportive relationships that empower students to discover their authentic selves while challenging themselves in the wilderness.
Green Light GO partners with schools to provide this innovative curriculum and unique wilderness experiences without overburdening limited resources. This collaborative approach honors Mr. Wimberg’s legacy and changes lives for the better, empowering the next generation to thrive.
Diverse by Nature, Inclusive by Choice
At Green Light GO, we believe nature is for everyone, and we’re dedicated to ensuring people from all backgrounds can access its beauty and power. Our goal is to create welcoming spaces for everyone, especially those historically excluded from nature. Each person’s unique experiences enrich our mission to connect young people from diverse backgrounds with the outdoors, in our efforts to transform young lives and improve life outcomes.
Inclusivity is a core value that shapes our programs and relationships with participants and partners. By amplifying voices that have been marginalized, we co-create a more inclusive narrative around nature’s healing power.
We celebrate the qualities that make each person unique, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, and cultural background. Together, we’re building a future where everyone can experience the transformative impact of nature.
